Despite a lot of dissention from residents in the area, the State Department of Transportation is moving ahead with an unpopular plan to blockade the dirt strip off Kamehameha Highway at Laniakea. Barriers will be put up beginning Thursday. No-parking signs are already on site and will be in effect for the next two days. The move is to keep people, mostly visitors, from criss-crossing back and forth, trying to get a closer view of the turtles that gather on the shoreline. The constant jaywalking causes major traffic backups in the area.
