There's a one-day work stoppage at Kaiser Moanalua Medical Center today. More than 300 Kaiser Permanente Hawaii union employees are protesting for improved work standards. The work stoppage includes union workers from the United Here Local 5. They are demanding Kaiser issue fair workloads, provide adequate staffing and hire more staff to allow workers to take vacations. Kaiser spokeswoman Laura Lott says Kaiser Permanente is negotiating in good faith with Local 5 and requests the two sides bargain at the table. Lott said the company has made five requests in the past 10 weeks to meet with Local 5 ro no avail. The workers are asking patients to sign petitions during the protest or go online to unitehere5.org/patientpetition.
