Suspicious Package Shuts Down Streets Near State Capitol

Posted Friday, August 1st 2014 @ 6pm

Police shut down Beretania Street between Punchbowl and Merchant Streets just after 11:30 a.m. Friday because of a suspicious package. Deputy Sheriffs received a call about 9:40 a.m. that an unattended package was left near the Eternal Flame War Memorial. Deputies responded and closed the Miller Street entrance to the Capitol parking garage. The police bomb squad was called in as a precaution.  The roads were reopened at about noon.
